IOST (Internet of smart things)

Course Overview

IOST Internet of Smart Things Trainings

Current networking integrates common “Things” to the Web, creating the Internet of Things (IoT). The considerable number of heterogeneous Things that can be part of an IoT network demands an efficient management of resources. With the advent of Fog computing, some IoT management tasks can be distributed toward the edge of the constrained networks, closer to physical devices. Blockchain protocols hosted on Fog networks can handle IoT management tasks such as communication, storage, and authentication. This research goes beyond the current definition of Things and presents the Internet of “Smart Things.” Smart Things are provisioned with Artificial Intelligence (AI) features based on CLIPS programming language to become self-inferenceable and self-monitorable.

To illustrate, the collaboration with the closet kins will happen based on spatial proximity and associative learning thanks to emergence of technologies like AI, edge computing and 5G. Citizens in the AI nation will walk down the streets of an augmented city with wearable devices that monitor their health and send them real-time alerts. They will share the data with smart nearby devices like CCTV cameras, drones, and vehicles on the streets. These devices will reward them with bigger computational power than their tiny wearable can achieve. In addition, cameras will receive contextual data from us and they will provide video streams to vehicles and receive from them computational power. Hence, vehicles with such data may be able to find the optimal routes and avoid traffic jams. It is the harmony and collaboration of humans and machines that make people’s life better.

Goal of Course:

In this session we will cover kin-direct smart resource sharing in IoT, fog computing, blockchain, and 5G as enables for the Internet of Smart Things. It will be followed up by hands-on machine learning exercise on developing a smart IoT clustering environment.

General Methodology

Similar to any L2S training program, this program offers an interactive learning experience in which will allow the delegates to reflect on their learning through an informative, indulging, and fun classroom experience. The design of the training session focuses on the following attributes.

  • Concrete Experience: The delegates will learn by doing
  • Reflective Observation: Reflecting on the newly experienced skill-set
  • Abstract Conceptualization: Developing deeper understanding to the learned concepts
  • Active Experimentation: providing the delegates with realistic tools that can be tested in the real life
